About Michelle
Experience matters when the people side of business gets complicated.
Michelle Reines Betke
Leadership & Business Advisor · Executive Coach · Consultant · Speaker
Michelle brings more than 40 years of real-world leadership and operational experience to every engagement. Her career has included leading complex operations, building teams, navigating turnarounds and growth, developing leaders, driving accountability, and making the difficult people and business decisions that come with being responsible for results. Her perspective is grounded in having done the work — not simply studied it.
The experience behind the work
Michelle's background is not theoretical. It is operational.
Michelle's career spans more than four decades of hands-on leadership. She has led people and operations through growth, change, turnarounds, performance challenges, and organizational complexity — including the moments when there was no perfect answer and someone still had to make the call.
That experience shapes the way she works today. When a leader is struggling with a difficult team dynamic, succession decision, accountability issue, or business challenge, Michelle brings more than a framework. She brings pattern recognition, practical judgment, and the perspective that comes from having faced many of the same realities herself.
She founded MDR Coaching & Consulting, Inc. to bring that experience directly to owners, executives, and leadership teams through high-touch coaching, advisory, consulting, facilitation, and customized leadership development.
How Michelle thinks about leadership
Leadership is not a title. It is a set of behaviors, decisions, and relationships that either move an organization forward or hold it back. Many leadership problems show up as people problems — and many people problems are ultimately leadership problems.
Michelle believes that the best leaders are not the ones who have all the answers. They are the ones who ask better questions, create real accountability, build the right team around them, and stay honest about what is actually happening — even when it is uncomfortable.
She does not start with a predetermined solution. She starts with the real situation. The right approach — whether that is executive coaching, advisory support, team facilitation, succession work, or a combination — gets built around what the leader and the organization actually need.
"The goal is not a better-looking org chart. It is a leadership team that actually works."
How Michelle works
Michelle intentionally works with a select number of clients so she can go deep. Every engagement is built around the leader, team, and business challenge at hand. The work may include coaching, advisory, consulting, facilitation, leadership development, or proven assessment tools — whatever best supports the outcome.
Direct
She will tell you what she sees, name what others may be tiptoeing around, and ask the questions you may have been avoiding. The goal is clarity and forward movement — not comfort for its own sake.
Practical
The advice stays grounded in what will actually work in your specific situation, with your specific people. Not jargon. Not a model that looks good on a slide but falls apart in the real world.
Deeply engaged
She stays connected to the issues between conversations, holds clients accountable to the commitments that matter, and is genuinely invested in the outcome — not just the engagement.
Experienced
You are working with someone who has led through many of the same challenges you are facing. The perspective she brings is not borrowed from a case study. It is earned.

A little more about Michelle
Outside of the work, Michelle is a reader, a traveler, and someone who believes that humor is one of the most underrated leadership tools there is. She is direct in conversation, genuinely curious about people, and has a low tolerance for pretense — in leadership and in life. She believes the best leadership conversations are honest, practical, and human — and that a little humor usually helps.
She wrote From BAD to BADASS because she wanted to create something that felt honest about what leadership actually looks like — the wins, the mistakes, the lessons that only come from doing it for real. It is the same spirit she brings to every client engagement.
